I have a good amp already and just need a new box for my subs. Would I have to run a wire from each rear speaker to the amp or just one? And I’m guessing it’s just a matter of splicing the wires together correct? No special connection needed? I’ve set up a system in all my vehicles previously but I was always adding an aftermarket head unit which made it a simple process. Both left and right speakers and u can either splice in or there r these connectors that I really wish I could remember what they r called but they create a connection n all they do is have like a needle go through the insulation and hit the actually speaker wire. The wires u splice into also speaker wire go to a box which give you the RCA output u want to send audio to the amp.
How do you hook up a 1 farad capacitor to your amp? Answer 1 You first have to determine which side of the cap is positive andwhich side is negative. You run a wire from the negative side tothe chassis and …for the positive side you run a cable from thebattery to the terminal and from the terminal to the amp. Be careful not to mix up positive and negative on the capbecause it could explode and cause damage.

I’ve been a lurker for a while and bought my base Unlimited sport a few weeks ago. I’ve since add wheels, tires and a few small mods here and there. The Kicker install is my first attempt and any real electrical work on any car I’m a novice in all since of the word. I started by pulling off the dash panels. The left and right corner panels, and panel under the steering column all are pressure clips and pull off easily.
The main dash panel held on by three screws. One is under the rubber mat in on the top of the dash and the other two are on either side of the steering wheel. Lastly I removed the radio by taking out the four screws holding it in and pulling it out gently. The kit comes with a wiring harness with left and right speaker wire inputs, a red power wire, and blue remote in wire.
I started by running the speaker level input wires from where I placed the sub under the front seat through the kick plate covers, up the left side of the dash, over the gage cluster and behind the radio. I spliced the left and right speaker level inputs with the left and right speaker wires in the main radio harness. The toughest part was determining which wires to splice. I wire nutted them all together and replaced the radio.

Sometimes the amp itself really is at fault. Here are a few common problems and what can be done to troubleshoot, as well as fix them my fixes are the most common. They are not definitive in any way. Your amplifier could have a completley different problem, though it is unlikely: Amplifier does not turn on.
Learning how to hook up a CB linear amp (kicker box) is easy. You do want to be careful not to hook up one that is too powerful, or you could have problems with the FCC. The CB comes with 4 watts of power as regulated by the FCC. Hooking up a linear amp can boost that wattage to 10 or even 12 watts. The linear amps help the output of the transmission.
Cars use thicker cable due to the high amount of current being drawn from the battery lower voltage appliances tend to draw more current then higher voltage ones, it also helps reduce voltdrop. Someone has said that CCA is what you want to look for on a car battery this is incorrect as Cold Cranking Amps are for when the car is cold and you try to start the engine its designed for a very short duration while keeping a voltage of 12V, the actual battery usage you need to look at is measure in Ah these are usually much smaller then the CCA and are the rating you can safety continuously draw from a car battery.
Note for the writer its a great article but i wouldn’t recommend soldering then crimping, solder is very soft and will become loose after a while your better off crimping stright on the copper. I have recently hooked up my Amplifier to a PCU. But I only used one black and one yellow wire of the PCU to power it. You said to connect all the yellow wires to each other and all the black wires to each other, and to use them that way.
Why I don’t know Can you please tell me if I will blow it or not.

Posted on January 5, by Richard Jeffrey Newman When I was in grade school, my grandmother taught me how to play the C major scale, bass and treble clef, on the Steinway upright piano she had in her apartment. From that moment on, I wanted to be a musician and, from that moment on, everyone in my family did everything they could to discourage me. I wanted to join as a drummer, but the corps needed horn players, so I ended up playing the bass baritone bugle.
I got be pretty good at it, but the hours I spent practicing drove my mother, and my neighbors, a little bit crazy. Then, I met my friend Bill, who had ambitions to become a singer-songwriter, and we started writing music together.
If you want to hype up the audio in your automobile, installing a subwoofer system is the best way to do it. There are different types of systems you can use to bring your car audio to the next level and holing up your car with one is easy enough if you have the proper tools and know-how.
Before you buy an amplifier If you’re asking the question “Should I buy an amplifier? Before we get into a discussion on buying an amplifier, first let’s pose another question. Do you actually need an amplifier? A standard CB radio is going to have an AM carrier also know as deadkey of around 3 to 4 watts. Once the carrier is modulated, output on the radio may reach watts on average with some models hitting around watts.
Single Sideband models SSB will normally have output of 12 watts, with some models hitting around watts after tuning. These output numbers are more than enough for basic local in-town communications if an operator has properly set up their antenna.

Amp in Protect Mode – Troubleshooting Foreword: I get so many questions about amplifiers going into protection or blowing fuses after remote turn-on voltage is applied that I’ve decided to provide a page to help determine if the amplifier is faulty or if a fault in the system is causing a problem. Many amplifiers will illuminate their protect LED during the mute delay when you initially power up the amplifier.
Since this kicker amp doesn’t have the ability for signal sensing like some of the other kickers you will need to hook up the ‘amp turn on’ wire to the amp also known as the Remote wire.
I’ve had friends run Kove 12″s, 4 doors and 2 tweeters off a 5 channel amp before. I doubt it got the sub to it’s RMS rating, but it sounded pretty good and got the job done, I just wouldn’t recommend it like that. I want to amp my tweeters and 6X9’s and my sub, different amps for the subs and speakers I don’t understand how you do it because the speakers have to be hooked up to the head unit right?? The power lead connects from the amp positive terminal to your battery – you will have to route the leads under your carpet.
The earth goes from your amp to a suitable earth i. The remote wire will run from your amp should be labelled remote on amp connection to the remote on the back of your headunit – this is almost certainly a blue wire and shouldnt be connected to anything else the remote tells the amp when to switch off. However, your passengers won’t like it, but who cares about them?
How to Hook Up a CB Linear Amp
A car amplifier can be easily removed from your vehicle, and it takes very little effort. The main thing is to ensure you are not leaving open lines to power in your vehicle, and that you reconnect the speakers to your radio once finished so that you still have sound. The amplifier is powered by the battery, generally through a power cable hooked directly to the car battery, which also contains a fuse. If you are removing the amplifier because it is not working properly , you may just want to check this fuse and replace it before going through the process of removal.
Step 1 – Disconnect Power Before you start to remove your car amplifier, be sure to disconnect the negative terminal from your car battery so you are not shocked and to prevent a power surge from your wiring as a result of a short circuit.
I have a kicker l5 15 and a kicker watt amp. i also have kenwood 6×9’s and 6 1/2’s. im wondering if i can hook everything up to the same amp and how without blowing anything up or would buying another amp .
My Jeeps I recently installed 2 kicker comp 10″ in my 98 jeep cherokee. I purchased an 8 guage wiring kit along with my subs. It came with power wire, ground, speaker wire, fuse, and remote wire. You connect the power wire to the positive of the battery and then make sure your fuse is within 18inches of the battery. Then i ran the power wire through the firewall and down the driver side floor panel to the rear of my car. If you have a upgraded head-unit with rca pre-amp outputs you just connect your RCA’s and follow the same path as your wiring.
Theres a blue wire in your wiring harness behind the head-unit.
